Hello everyone! My name is Becky and I’m a contributor at Houzz, a home design site focused on helping design professionals and homeowners manage the remodeling and decorating process. Thanks so much to Lindsey for having me!
Here’s the thing: I had never heard of Taylor Tomasi Hill until I read Hip Lip (when it comes to style, I am so over reading about Jenna Lyons and Olivia Palermo). It had been a long time since someone’s personal style had come along and wowed me, at once making me envious and making me smile. Hill is fresh, fearless, confident and unique; her style even has a little Helena Bonham Carter in Fight Club going on. I don’t see one picture of her in those hideous Real Housewives stripper platforms, but rather thigh-high duck boots, sparkly Converse-esque high tops or non-hookerish heels. Since my field is decor and not fashion, I picked a few favorite rooms that remind me of her ensembles.
Contrasting white ruffles and dark moments. The white sheets seem fresh and pure while the ethereal and slightly creepy portrait and gothic chandelier hovers; it reminds me of that white ruffled dress Hill accessorized with a black belt and studded leather bracelets.
A wide mix of textures. A Mies van de Rohe leather chair, a fur throw, modern pendants that dangle like earrings and a dark circle of a focal point look like one of Hill’s outfits to me; all that is missing from this room may be some worn denim.
Mixing traditional and contemporary touches. This Brooklyn townhouse mixes classic architecture with cowhides, glints of metallic finishes and even chenille. It’s the kind of style mix I can see Hill pulling off with aplomb.
Thanks so much to Hip Lip for letting me stop by today and for introducing me to the sartorial choices of Taylor Tomasi Hill.
