labor day weekend eats!

Monarch Beach - Orange County, CA - Labor Day Weekend 2008

Whether you’re planning to be at the beach or in your own backyard…Labor Day weekend is a time to say goodbye to summer…and eat fattening foods because let’s face it – sweaters and elastic waist pants aka leggings are within reach. With Labor Day weekend coming up and not much time left to sort your menu – I thought I’d share some recipes to please the crowd at your barbecue!

Start off with these:
chile con queso via homesick texan
guacamole via mexico: the beautiful cookbook
buttermilk ranch dressing (to dip veggies and ruffles in) via whole foods market

Move on to this…
the famous shake shack burger via seriouseats*
I read in the comments about the sauce: “the Shack sauce mixture is dijon mustard, yellow mustard, mayonnaise, tomato puree, onions, pickles, garlic, chipotle” –so try the one in the post, this one, or try your own! I think the key to this burger is the mixture of meats…
sticky barbecued beef ribs via food & wine
spinach salad with warm bacon dressing via real simple
mexican grilled corn via tyler florence
american macaroni salad via food network
homemade baked beans via eat, live, run

And end with…
since you are slaving over the grill/stove for the rest – pick up an angel food cake from the store and top with fresh berries, whipped cream, and brown sugar!

Surely don’t forget these…
sangria via emeril lagasse
skinnygirl margarita via bethenney
sweet leaf tea mixers & fixers via sweet leaf tea

Get a bean bag toss game going (official rules here) and you’ve got yourself a fun day planned! Have a great labor day weekend. We are jetting off to Orange County, CA for fun with friends, and you know I will be on the look out for those crazy housewives! Certainly will have more reviews of fine establishments in that area when we return!
