The Loaded Trunk

Amazing coverlet! Grumeti River Lodge - Tanzania, Africa - June 2010

I first spied this e-shop on The Hidden List. When I finally made it over to The Loaded Trunk I realized they have quite a fantastic assortment of treasures from all over the globe. I immediately thought of our recent travels in Africa (which deserve a blog post or five) and how I fell in love with a coverlet on our bed in one of our Tanzanian lodges. After many questions to the staff I found out the coverlet had been handmade and imported from South Africa so it wasn’t something I could buy or find in Tanzania. It was made out of many strips of Kente cloth which is a silk fabric native to the people of Ghana. For a similar feel, check out The Loaded Trunk’s colorful coverlets from all over the world. I imagine a dark wood bed, all white linens, and the coverlet stealing the show bringing the splash of color. I really appreciate the fact that Roni, the site’s owner, is dedicated to free trade and supporting the local economies. Cheers to her for bringing us such unique pieces!
