Guest Post: Feeling Hot Today?

Makeup By Elisa is back – today reviewing her favorite self-tanners…

Here in Las Vegas, it was 100 degrees yesterday.  You know what that means:  less clothing and more skin showing! If you are thinking about going tanning, you thought WRONG! We all know by now that the sun is the enemy of our beautiful skin. Unfortunately most self tanners we are used to smell, streak, and look orange.
UNTIL NOW! There are many new gorgeous and innovative self tanners available. There are so many options: sprays, lotions, gradual lotions, wipes, mousse… I could go on and on. Just don’t forget to use a scrub first and don’t put any lotion on before the tanner: you don’t want any barrier between the tanner and your skin.

Below are some of my favorite tanners. Find out which one is best for you!

1) St. Tropez Spray:  By far, the best tanner I have used. It comes in a mousse, spray, lotion, and gradual lotion.  I prefer the spray because it is SO easy to apply. I spray it evenly on my skin and that’s it! It’s actually best NOT to rub. It couldn’t be more easy! I think the smell is totally bearable, if you are heading out for errands. I have never used a product that is less likely to streak and that has such a natural color. MUST TRY.
NOTE: If you use the mousse, invest in the Tanning Mitt because by the time you wash your hands, they are already brown. I learned this the hard way and wasted a lot of scrub and time trying to get them clean.

2) Charlotte Ronson Summer Always Scented Gradual Tan Body Lotion: I apply this in between days of the heavy tanners. It smells wonderful but is a gradual tanner AND it hydrates with jojoba oil. Two in one product!

3) Kate Somerville Wipes: These get great reviews by the fairest of skins. No “orangey” color. Tip: Cut the wipes in half and put the unused part in a ziploc bag.

4.) Victoria Secret Beach Sexy: I can’t lie, I haven’t tried this yet, but I hear about it CONSTANTLY. It’s known for the pleasant scent and the bronze color that it gives. Definitely on my shopping list.

Temporary Tans:
1.) Lorac Tantalizer
2.) Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs: This has been my go-to product for years. When I worked outside in Vegas, I would spray this on my legs and it was sweatproof and waterproof. Perfect for a night out.

I definitely agree with buying a tanning mitt, there is nothing worse than when the palm of your hands are darker than your actual skin! And it does take absolutely ages to get off, you don’t want to be walking around for days trying to hide your hands from people or wearing gloves when the sun is shining outside. My advice, invest in a tanning mitt!
